HOW DID SCIENCE DETERMINE THE SOUTH AFRICA’S BEST DRIVING ROAD?
“There are four key phases of a drive,” according to eminent quantum physicist, Dr Mark Hadley – our lead researcher. Bends, acceleration, cruising and braking, to be precise.
“A great driving road strikes just the right balance between the phases so you get the exhilaration of speed and acceleration, whilst corners test your driving capabilities and long stretches allow you to enjoy the scenery.”
What does the Avis Driving Ratio mean?
In a nutshell, we’ve calculated the optimum balance between all these key components – which in turn has allowed us to scientifically establish the World’s Best Driving Road.
This led Dr Mark Hadley to calculate that the ideal Avis Driving Ratio is 10:1 – 10 seconds on a straight compared to 1 second spent on a bend.
What determines South Africa’s Best Driving Road?
To explain further, Dr Mark Hadley added: “The time spent on the straight allows for the optimum time to appreciate the surrounding scenery before moving into the next bend, whilst still giving the driver the thrill and excitement you get from a challenging drive”.
